El 2015 se inauguró con un rostro oriental como una de las new faces más prometedoras de la moda masculina. Se trata de Allen Ye. Aprovechamos su paso por 080 Barcelona Fashion para hablar con este joven modelo de una profesión relativamente nueva en China, el gran imperio de la moda.

Fue Pierre Cardin, pionero en desfilar a finales de los 70 en la China comunista, quien introduce el ideal de convertirse en modelo en la mentalidad china. Un sueño que comienza a hacerse realidad para muchas chicas en 1988, año en el que nace el primer concurso de modelos en China. Pocos años después, en 1992, surge la primera agencia de modelos, Xinsilu, la cual también se dedica a organizar este tipo de eventos que comienzan a proliferar en todo el país. De hecho, top models internacionales como Du Juan o Liu Wen son descubiertas en estas competiciones. Valorada como una profesión sería y prestigiosa, en el 2000 se crea la primera organización de modelos de moda dentro de la China Fashion Association: China Professional Fashion Models (piensa que la Asociación de Modelos y Agencias de España nace en 2007).
Dentro de este contexto nace Allen Ye, un joven modelo chino recién salido de la universidad y descubierto durante un casting en la Hong Kong Fashion Week. Muchos creen que es coreano o japonés, “creo que es por mis ojos”, explica Allen. Estamos en Barcelona y este es su primer viaje a Europa. “Me encanta viajar, ser modelo y viajar son casi sinónimos”. Y aunque comenta que es una profesión difícil cuando eres una new face, se considera afortunado: “tengo un trabajo bonito y ahora he hecho trabajos fantásticos en Barcelona con la agencia Traffic, son muy agradables”. Y nos aclara alguna duda sobre la diferencia entre trabajar en China y en Europa: “No hay mucha diferencia. Salvo que el trabajo de maquillaje aquí es más sencillo y rápido. En China invertimos mucho más tiempo en los preparativos”. En lo que es diseño de moda, Allen sí que ve más diferencias: “la moda europea es más internacional y siempre tiene ideas nuevas. La moda china es más local, y normalmente está asociada a nuestra cultura. Hay un joven diseñador chino que me gusta: Nelson. Mezcla los video juegos con la ropa de una forma muy interesante”. De 080 le gusto todo, pero si tuviera que quedarse con una firma sería con Blame Label: “me encanta el blanco y negro. La ropa era realmente cool e innovadora”. Igual que Allen, un modelo que promete convertirse en la cara del nuevo emperador de moda.

2015 kicked off with an oriental style, as one of the most promising New Faces of male fashion yet. It’s all about Allen Ye. We make the most of his trip to 080 Barcelona Fashion to chat to this young model about a profession that’s relatively new in China: the grand empire of fashion.

It was Pierre Cardin, pioneer of the runway towards the end of the Seventies in communist China, who first introduced the idea of becoming a model to the Chinese mentality. A dream that came true for many girls in 1988, the year that the first model contest started in China. A few years later, in 1992, the first modelling agency appeared, called Xinsilu, which also works to organise those kinds of events which are starting to proliferate the country over. In fact, top international models such as Du Juan or Liu Wen were discovered at these kinds of competitions. It’s considered a serious and prestigious profession, and in 2000 the first fashion model organisation was created, within the China Fashion Association: China Professional Models (food for thought when you think that the equivalent association was only created in Spain in 2007).
Coming out of these kinds of events is Allen Ye, a young Chinese model who has recently graduated, and who was discovered at a casting at Hong Kong Fashion Week. A lot of people think he’s Korean or Japanese, “I think it’s because of my eyes”, explains Allen. We’re in Barcelona and this is his first trip to Europe. “I love travelling, being a model and travelling are basically synonymous”. And although he says it’s a pretty hard profession when you’re a new face, he considers himself lucky: “I have a lovely job and now I’ve done some fantastic work in Barcelona with the agency Traffic, they’re really nice”. And he clears up any doubts regarding the difference between working in China and working in Europe: “There’s not much difference, except that the make-up here is a lot simpler and it’s faster. We spend more time getting prepared in China”. When it comes to fashion design, however, Allen does see some differences: “European fashion is more international and there are always new ideas. Chinese fashion is more localised, and it’s normally associated with our culture. There’s a young Chinese designer who I like a lot: Nelson. He mixes video games with clothing in a really interesting way”. He liked everything at 080, but if he had to choose one it’d be Blame Label: “I love black and white. The clothes were genuinely cool and innovative”. Just like Allen then, a model who promises to become the face of a new fashion empire.
