Interview with Dzhovani Gospodinov

Interview with top model Dzhovani Gospodinov

“Right now I’m in Thailand, doing a yoga teaching course.” He’s 22 years old and has worked with fashion brands as Balenciaga, Thom Browne, Hermès, Junya Watanabe… He was born in Bulgaria. When he was nine, his family emigrated in search of a better life. “And we found it”, in Luxembourg, a country better known for being a tax haven. “It is, but it used to be much better. Now there’s less secrecy and more control. Although it is still a good place for large companies and banks and, without a doubt, it offers certain advantages. I can’t complain.” Despite it being a haven, Dzhovani, very sincerely, does not recommend Luxembourg as a tourist destination. “There’s not a lot to see. There are some great restaurants, but very few bars and the clubs are pathetic. You can visit the city in a day; the fortress around the old town is very nice and you have to see the modern art museum, Mudam.” Dzhovani doesn’t stop at Luxembourg’s three official languages (German, French and Luxembourgish). “I hate to say it because I don’t want to sound full of myself, but I speak six languages, with a couple of others on their way.” Now my mum lives in Luxembourg and my dad in Spain. He has opened a hair salon in Altea, Dzhovani Hair Studio. It’s been open for five months and it’s doing very well. I’m happy. I also have a small asparagus business that I want to expand next year, although it is very seasonal.” Just like fashion. Meanwhile we’ll continue to see him on the catwalk, in campaigns and, why not, even on Instagram. “Unfortunately social networks are very important in this line of work and I’m terrible with them. I know people who land jobs through them and it’s good because they understand how it works. In New York for example, Instagram accounts are the model’s composite. If you don’t have enough followers you’ll probably only get work in dribs and drabs. There are a lot of people out there who should not be influential. It would be interesting to try on their shoes for size, but I really don’t know much about it.”  @dzhovani_gospodinov
