Tras 6 años de sentida ausencia, Amenábar ha sabido encontrar el mejor camino para volver. Con “Regresión”, su sexto mandamiento cinematográfico, el que fuera considerado el niño prodigio del thriller español retoma el suspense psicológico de sus inicios. Y los adeptos a su culto lo celebramos enganchándonos a este ritual con misas negras oficiado por dos líderes del star-system: Ethan Hawke y Emma Watson. La sala de cine oscurece, todavía más, y esa oscuridad nunca fue tan sugestiva.
REGRESIÓN: “Antes de dirigir ‘Ágora’, ya me apetecía volver a hacer género. A la hora de pensar en posibles McGuffins, investigué sobre el satanismo, por ejemplo, en ‘La Biblia Satánica’ de Anton Szandor Lavey. Estuve un tiempo divagando, también tanteé el tema de los ovnis, y de pronto descubrí el fenómeno de los abusos rituales satánicos en Estados Unidos en los años 80. Me dio la posibilidad de combinar las sectas con un thriller psicológico y escribir una historia sobre la mente y nuestros miedos”.
ETHAN HAWKE: “Es muy inquieto y de naturaleza curiosa, con lo que se convirtió en el aliado perfecto para el proyecto”.
EMMA WATSON: “Su agente me pidió el guión y a las 24 horas me estaba reuniendo con ella, fue sorprendentemente rápido. A veces son los actores los que llaman al guión”.

After 6 years of felt absence, Amenábar knew how to find the best way to come back. With “Regression”, his sixth cinematographic offering, he who was considered the child prodigy of Spanish thrillers is back to the psychological suspense of his beginnings. And those in the know are celebrating it by delving into a black mass ritual officiated by two leaders of the star-system: Ethan Hawke and Emma Watson. The cinema goes dark, darker still, and that darkness has never been so suggestive.
REGRESSION: “Before directing ‘Agora’ I already fancied going back to the genre. When it came to thinking about the potential McGuffins I did some research into Satanism, for instance, in ‘The Satanic Bible’ by Anton Szandor Lavey. I got sidetracked for a bit, I also played around with the idea of UFOs, and I soon came across the phenomenon of ritual Satanic abuse in the US in the Eighties. It gave me the chance to combine sects into a psychological thriller and write a story about the mind and our fears”.
ETHAN HAWKE: “He’s pretty restless and naturally curious, which made him the perfect accomplice for the project”.
EMMA WATSON: “Her agent asked me for the script and 24 hours later I was in a meeting with her, it was surprisingly fast. Sometimes it’s the actors who ask for the script”.
