Uno de los conciertazos del pasado Dcode. Los de Oxford han regresado con ‘What Went Down’, un disco en el que exprimen su cara más rockera a base de guitarras agresivas y una producción despojada de toda clase de arreglos superficiales. Hablamos con Jake Bevan, su baterista.
Sonido: “Poner la misma energía de un concierto en un disco es muy difícil, porque son dos ambientes completamente distintos. Cuando tocas en directo sientes la energía del público, y hemos hecho todo lo posible por capturar esa energía en el disco. La canción ‘What Went Down’ es el mejor ejemplo, porque fue la primera que grabamos cuando llegamos al estudio; la tocamos sólo un par de veces y usamos la primera versión. Eso es como poner una canción en directo dentro del disco. También tiene que ver la producción de James Ford, que ha hecho algunos arreglos que logran que el disco suene más como un concierto. Todo su trabajo ha sido estupendo”.
Composición: “Estuvimos de gira durante mucho tiempo con el disco anterior, paramos durante un par de semanas y ya estábamos listos para empezar a escribir. En un grupo, si sale de forma natural no hay por qué parar”.

The Oxford lot are back with ‘What Went Down’, an album on which they squeeze out their rockiest side, using aggressive guitars and production that’s stripped of all superficial arrangements. We chat to Jake Bevan, their guitarist.
Sound: “Putting the same energy that you get playing live into an album is very hard, because they are two completely separate things. When you play live you feel the public’s energy, and we’ve done everything possible to capture that energy on the record. The song ‘What Went Down’ is the best example, because it was the first one that we recorded when we got into the studio; we only played it a few times and we used the first version. That’s how to put a live song on an album. It’s also a lot down to James Ford’s production, because he’s done some arrangements that make the album sound more like a gig. Everything he’s done has been fantastic”.
Writing: “We were touring a lot of the time with the previous record, we stopped for a few weeks and then we were ready to start writing. If everything comes naturally in a band then there’s no need to stop”.
