De origen chipriota pero establecido en Londres, el diseñador Michael Anastassiades es un espíritu independiente que ha decidido desde el comienzo de su carrera combinar el trabajar para grandes empresas y a la vez desarrollar la suya propia (establecida en 2007).
La luz: Una gran mayoría de mis diseños están relacionados con la luz, el 80% del trabajo de mi estudio está dedicado a ella. Me sentí atraído por el tema de la iluminación muy desde el principio, diseñar luces es de alguna manera un modo de capturar la naturaleza, y hay tanta belleza en ello. Las diferentes posibilidades en las que uno experimenta con la luz son infinitas. Desde mi propio estudio he hecho un tipo de trabajo que me ha permitido experimentar de un modo muy libre y muy personal.
Un proyecto especial: “String Lights” es un proyecto que he hecho para la firma Flos y que ha tenido mucha repercusión. La idea viene de mi observación de los cables eléctricos cuando viajo en tren. Me llamaba la atención el orden que desprenden, el ritmo, la perfecta distancia entre los postes…

The light: “A large majority of my designs are related to light, 80% of the work of my studio is focussed on it. Since the very beginning I’ve always been drawn to the theme of light, and designing lights is a way of capturing nature, in one way or another, and there’s so much beauty in it. The different possibilities in which one experiments with light are infinite. From my own studio I’ve made a kind of work that has allowed me to experiment in a really free and personal way”.
Special Project: “String Lights” is a project I did for the firm Flos, and which has had huge repercussions. The idea comes from my observation of the electric cables I see when I travel by train. I was really taken by the way they detach, the rhythm, the perfect distance between the posts.
