En sus vídeos y audios Patricia Esquivias arma y desarma narraciones históricas y culturales y las expone liberadas de toda erudición. Estos relatos, que han pasado de boca en boca, promueven otra relación con el trabajo documental. Entrevistas a la artista en el último número de Neo2.
CA2M: “La exposición recoge mi trabajo de los últimos cinco años sobre ciertos elementos decorativos en la arquitectura y los mundos que los acogen. Murales de cerámica en terrazas madrileñas, aceras de concreto decoradas y ya muy gastadas de Colombia, casas de estilo europeo en el Rif, la región de montañas al norte de Marruecos, decoradas con pseudo esgrafiados. En cada caso comienzo haciendo una investigación con la intención de descubrir cómo y por qué fue realizada cada una de estas intervenciones. A partir de allí, los mundos que acogen estos objetos empiezan a mezclarse con lo que yo tengo que decir sobre ellos”.
Cuestionar la historia: “A veces hay que inventar para explicar verdades, no hay otro modo. Con los niños es un método muy aceptado. Es bonito y resulta satisfactorio para todos los bandos”.
Edificios: “Trabajar alrededor de la historia de un edificio pensé que podría ser un trabajo infinito y a la vez algo parecido a cumplir un sueño. Lo primero que me llamó la atención de estos edificios ubicados en el Paseo de la Castellana fueron sus cien terrazas decoradas cada una con un mural diferente. Pero después de empezar a conocer estos espacios mejor me di cuenta que siempre iban a surgir cambios y novedades a las que prestar atención. Estos edificios se construyeron a finales de los años cincuenta, en lo que antes era la Avenida del Generalísimo, y dicen que ahí vivían altos cargos de la CIA. ¡Y yo que en principio sólo pensaba en cómo sería para la gente vivir con esa pieza de arte en la terraza!”.

In her videos and audios, Patricia Esquivias gathers and disseminates historical and cultural narrations, exhibiting them free from any erudition.These stories, which have been passed on orally, promote a different relationship with documentary work.
CA2M. “The exhibition gathers together my work from the last five years on certain decorative elements to be found in architecture and the worlds that play host to them. Ceramic murals on Madrilenian terraces, decorated and very worn-out concrete pavements in Columbia, European-style houses in the Rif Mountains in North Morocco decorated with pseudo graffito. In every case I start by conducting research with the intention of discovering how and why each one of these interventions was carried out. Then, the worlds that play host to these objects start to mix with what I have to say about them.”
Questioning history. “Sometimes you have to invent things in order to explain the truth, there’s no other way. With children, it’s a very much accepted method. It’s nice and satisfactory for all sides.”
Buildings. “I thought that to work on the history of a building could be both a never-ending job and something like fulfilling a dream. The first things that caught my eye were those buildings on Paseo de la Castellana in Madrid. Each one of the hundred terraces is decorated with a different mural. But, after getting to know these spaces better, I realized that changes and new things were always going to emerge and that I had to pay attention. These buildings were built at the end of the 1950s, on what was previously called the Avenida del Generalísimo. It was said that bigwigs from the CIA lived there. And it all started with me thinking how would it be for these people to live with a piece of art on their terrace!”
